Rating: Standard, mid-range Roman coffee
In the Cielo Rione of Rome, right behind the colosseum you find some decent small restaurants and lots of uber-touristy ones. And I was trying to find a normal, non tourist café to try. I found the Twin’s Bar Caffè. There were locals and a few tourists in it. I walked in, the barista who seemed like the owner was nice, probably in his early 50s and very courteous. He served up an espresso immediately.

This is what he gave me:

Presentation: A cup I’m all too familiar with. I set a high bar when I see this cup as it’s usually a harsh experience. The spoon, look at it! Very Byzantine, Baroque, I liked it, it went with the travertine marble that was below it. No water offered, don’t care anymore.
Temperature of Cup: It was uber hot. Yup, too hot.
Quantity: Short shot, not bad, as this cup tends to give lots of space for messy espressos.
Temperature: Well, after waiting a good 2 minutes, the cup was good, and a bit colder than I expected, meaning that it was probably brewed at a good temperature and the cup taken from the bottom of the heap.
Volume/Consistency: Very silky, very smooth, wet, not runny, and not heavy. It was very good.
Crema: Dark, not over extracted, persistent, and a bit thick due to the Robusta in the blend. I can live with it, and it added to the drinking experience, nice.

Odor: Nope, all gone.
Taste: It was not a strong start, and it was a smooth non-uber-bitter coffee. It was very flat in taste profile, and nothing extra-ordinary. I guess the best thing about it was that, that it was a normal, drinkable espresso that wasn’t simply super bitter.

Overall: Nice, mid-range roman coffee. I was happy if not bored but that’s better than getting a cup of rancid tar.
The setup: The espresso machine was a very nice Faema Emblema model. The grinder a black Astoria. They also had a La Cimbali small on demand grinder for the decaf. The coffee was the Roman roaster Palombin Caffè, they’re famous for their super strong punchy bitter coffee. Nuff’ said on that front.
