Rating: Normal, better version of Danesi Roman coffee
The Caffè Giuletti is yet another one of these cafes that kind of appears out of nowhere. Unless you’re consciously examening the facade of every building you pass, you’ll probably never notice it’s there. Thus, it’s a place most probably frequented by locals, and a neighborhood type of joint. Walking in the place you find a very friendly couple of baristas. One working the register, and generally talking more to the clients, and another, naturally working the coffee machine. The interior was large, and since I was hungry I decided to try their tramezzini- they were cheap and were very good.
Asking for a cup of coffee got me this:
Presentation: The cup was rather large-bowl shaped, and had a logo that I’ve encountered a lot before. Let’s see how this goes. The water was offered immediately, and everything was clean and sharp.
Temperature of Cup: Not too hot, this was a very good start!
Quantity: Given the rather large size of the cup, the shot was very short, and that made me happy!
Temperature: It was good. Able to drink it right away.
Volume/Consistency: All was rather great until I tasted it. It was a watery, thin, yet definitely not offensive consistency. It was light and repeatable. Good for sitting around with friends and drinking 3-4 espressos.
Crema: It was rather darker than the photo shows, thin, not oily. Some slight character.
Odor: No real odor I could discern, as usual.
Taste: Not rancid, softly bitter, very simple taste gamut that reflects deeply roasted coffee.
Overall: Run of the mill. Nothing extra ordinary, yet nothing offensive. I will say that this is quite a good version of Danesi caffè which is normally charred coffee and extremely rancid.
The setup: Not sure what coffee machine this was, nor what grinder, the baristas weren’t too forthcoming when I asked them what machine it was. They said it was ‘Danesi’ which is of course a proprietary version of something else, probably some kind of ‘La Cimbali’ or like brand. Danesi is a Roman based roaster that does the typical harsh-dark roasted beans.
