PYRAMID CAFÈ, VIA OSTIENSE 31/33, 00154 ROMA
Rating: Standard, above average coffee
The Pyramid Cafè on the Via Ostiense (South of the Pyramid and the station) was packed with people outside, sports a very large interior space with lots of tables, and two nice baristas. Its name is similar to the cafe right at the Piramide station… so don’t confuse it!

Asking for a cup of coffee gets you this:

Presentation: Dig the jet-black cup, it was clean, and promised something good. We know the brand, so it’s not a ‘third-wave’ establishment, but let’s see what they do. The coffee was immediately offered with sparkling water (Egeria brand), yet it was in a plastic disposable cup. Who knows what’s the bigger carbon print, throwing away the cup in the garbage, of all the water/energy used to wash the glass cups?
Temperature of Cup: We’re off to a good start with a nice temperature cup. Nothing scalding here.
Quantity: Yet, if you look at the photo, the cup is rather large and the espresso a bit too long for my taste.
Temperature: Ah nice, very good temperature liquidness.
Volume/Consistency: Almost too watery, but good, had a consistency which you could almost press between your tongue and palate. I could taste the coffee very well.
Crema: Marbly, rather dark, persistent, and shows some honing into the coffee, nothing over blond here.

Odor: Could smell the coffee a little bit, deep roasted fragrance to coffee.
Taste: Actually good, not rancid, not overpowering, actually mild and could taste deep coffee.

Overall: On the short stretch between the Ostiense station and heading towards the Caffe Literario, on the via Ostiense, this seems to be the best. It was a pleasant espresso, 100 times better than anything you get at Starbucks (or Palombini EUR for that matter!). Will definitely stop by again here.
The setup: A Wega machine, I had to ask the baristas, and they didn’t know… they were kind enough to ask the owner, who was very suspicious about why the hell I’d like to know what machine it was – but he obliged by saying it was a Wega. The grinders were both Mazzers. And the coffee, was one we’ve encountered before, Caffè Vergnano, roasted in northern Italy.
