ROMAGNANI CAFFÈ, PIAZZALE ENRICO DUNANT 18, 00152 ROMA
Rating: Standard, good traditional Roman coffee
The Romagnani Caffè Pasticceria is very sleek, all white against black place, that speaks of newness and being cool. It had a nice young barista that took his job seriously, and greeted everybody coming in with the same affirmative courtesy. Let’s see what’s the brew where.

Asking for a coffee got me the following:

Presentation: As you can see, water, straight-up, immediately. The cup was nice, clean, and it had been milked for another espresso ordered at the same time as mine.
Temperature of Cup: Very good temperature. It was early in the morning, so maybe this was a factor in it. But for now, it was good.
Quantity: It was bordering on the ‘too much’, but not excessive. It was probably right on the line cup manufacturers build into the espresso cups to guide baristas on the duration of the shot.
Temperature: Ahh… nice, not not, not cold, just right and I could taste the espresso.
Volume/Consistency: Here’s the interesting point, while it was indeed silky, i.e., with a definite texture, it was a bit watery. If it would have been a shorter espresso, I think it would have been spot on.
Crema: Crema was dark, nice, but thin and not very persistent.
Odor: Faint faint faaaaint odor of coffee. Who’s at fault here? The roaster or the bar?
Taste: The taste was what i expect now out of a Roman coffee. Strong, very bitter, and at sips, bordering on the rancid. But this wasn’t rancid, and stayed on the very strong, deep side.

Overall: This wasn’t a bad coffee, it was standard, good, OK and definitely repeatable and not offensive. It wasn’t spectacular, but dependable. I’d be glad to have a bar in walking distance to enjoy everyday.
The setup: They had a very nice four group Wega Vela espresso Machine. Its a E-61 based group and capable of squirting crazy good traditional Italian espressos. The grinder looked like a Mazzer Major but it wasn’t, couldn’t make out the maker.

The coffee being brewed was Mokaeffe Caffè. The link I provide won’t work, but it’s what’s given by the sugar bag advertising it. It appears to be a ‘Roman’ roaster according to the provenance of the cup indicated by this cool website that showcases coffee cups:Tazzinedicaffe.
In any case, the place s cool, and has also gelato and other things as you can see.
